The effect of school meal supplementation with Anethum graveolens Leaves on ADHD for mental retarded children

Abstract

The current study aimed to investigate the effect of school meal supplementation with (Anethum graveolens Leaves) powders as a good source of (magnesium, zinc and calcium) of ADHD symptoms for mental retarded children. The study was carried out on mental retarded children from Model Center for Intellectual Education. The investigated sample includes 25 children age (8-12yrs.). The personal and socio-economic, the food habits, the diet history, 24h recall and the clinical signs. In addition to the Attention Deficit Disorder. The nutritional intervention was 25g from Anethum graveolens Leaves in one cup of yogurt besides normal school meal represented. The results demonstrated that there was great improvement in magnesium and calcium intake between pre and post intervention in a different ratio ranged from (54%-48%).on the other hand according to behavioral test According to total degree of ADHD test there were statistically significant differences between mean total degree (375,297) pre and post dietary intervention respectively in favor of post intervention.

These may be related to increase level of Magnesium, Zinc and Calcium intake which results from addition of Dill in school meal. Conclusion Intakes mental retarded children with ADHD (25g of Anethum graveolens Leaves. powder /day) as good source in magnesium, zinc and calcium which can help in improving their ADHD symptoms. The researcher suggests that a diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein, and healthy fats, and avoiding in processed foods, salt, sugar and fast food may be beneficial for the brain and ADHD
